SketchUp is a three‐dimensional modeling program people can use to construct rich and expressive environments. Because SketchUp was developed as 3D modeling tool for everyone, its power is derived from its easy‐to‐use tools and an intuitive 3D work environment. The SketchUp Process Modeling method includes constructing a model in a logical order, adding detail by using available resources and organizing a model to maintain computer performance and a clean 3D workspace. SketchUp Process Modeling divides the built environment into two categories: surfaces that define areas and objects that sit on surfaces. Surfaces are populated with objects that simulate the built environment. When using SketchUp modeling to create surfaces and objects, the 2D = 3D method of problem solving is an important one to understand. The Materials menu provides a wide‐ranging set of colors and textures that can be applied to faces.
