Distribution System Maps and Record‐keeping
The 114‐year‐old Kalamazoo, Mich., water utility has an accumulation of distribution system records, some of which were developed informally in the late 1800s from memory and continue to supply needed information. The utility now has a comprehensive record‐keeping system that is undergoing a transition from manually maintained index cards to computerized systems. Operator training must accompany the development of computerized record‐keeping systems if the new technology is to achieve its intended goal.
