Sheet piling structures
This chapter discusses materials and construction and design of sheet piling. Moving to designs of design of cofferdams, the chapter informs that cellular cofferdams are constructed from straight‐web pile sections with a high interlock tensile strength of 2.0–5.5 MN/m. Walings transfer the support reactions from the sheet piling to the anchors. If the anchor piles are driven before the sheet pile wall and the sheet piles suffer forward or backward lean during driving, the anchor piles already installed are not always in the right position relative to the sheet piling. Steel capping beams for sheet piling walls are designed according to structural, operational and constructional requirements. Sheet pile walls are subjected to bending loads due to active earth pressure, which results in wall rotations around the anchor connections. These rotations are transferred to the anchors when the anchors are connected in accordance with R 59, section 8.4.3.
