Cover Picture: Steel Construction 4/2013
The cover picture shows the erection state of the branch pipe of the pumped storage plant Limberg II of VERBUND Hydro Power AG, Austria, with a capacity of 480 MW. The branch pipe in underground construction is part of the tailrace manifold. It has a central diameter of 7.6 m and is made of high strength steel S550QL with plate thicknesses of 58 mm for the wall and 120 mm for the sickle plate (shown at left hand of the picture). For more information about the project, please see the paper of Paul Stering, Josef Mayrhuber and Horst Cerjak (pp. 249–256). (Source: Verbund Hydro Power AG)
