Proposed Regulations on Organic: Prudent Assumptions
The proposed organics regulations are discussed. When the animal carcinogenicity of chloroform was established it was prudent to assume that humans ingesting low levels over a long period of time would be at some increased risk of cancer. However, the animal data upon which risk estimates were made for chloroform exposure, were sparse and inconsistent. The estimates provide an estimate of one excess cancer case per year for each 10 million persons exposed. This excess is so small as to escape detection by normally used methodologies.
