DOE Rule Is Good For Water Utilities and Their Customers
This article discusses the US Department of Energy rule that requires residential single‐load clothes washers to be much more water‐ and energy‐efficient in the future. The new standards require a 17% improvement in energy efficiency by 2004 and a 35% improvement by 2007. This new generation of efficient clothes washers has already demonstrated that clothes can be washed cleaner with less abrasion while water and energy use are reduced by more than 40%.
