A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
A slope of a 50 m deep cut for a federal freeway in Germany began to slide during excavation. By means of a stabilizing fill the slope was temporarily stabilized. Additional explorations and stability analyses resulted in the design of stabilizing measures, consisting of tendons and long drainage holes. In addition, a monitoring program consisting of surface measuring points, anchor load cells, extensometers, inclinometers and piezometers was carried out. Under these conditions, the final excavation of the cut was successfully carried out.
