Staining of Free‐Living Nematodes by Alcoholic Eosin‐Y Dye
The objective of this study was to develop a simple and rapid method for staining free‐living nematodes. The method should be useful to water and wastewater treatment plant operators for determining the presence of nematodes. It involves the use of an alcoholic solution of eosin‐Y dye, which stains a heterogenous population of nematodes. This method is a modification of the procedure proposed by Chaudhuri et al. Its major advantages are the ability to differentiate free‐living nematodes from particles of debris and the increased accuracy of the results over other staining procedures.
