AWWA's Security Committee: Striving to Enhance Water Industry Security
This article describes the AWWA Security Committee (SC) and its goal of advancing and disseminating current research, suggested practices, training, and technology that improve water utility security, assuring safe and reliable water service, and providing a secure work environment for utility employees. To fulfill this mission, the SC provides guidance to the association's volunteer units and staff in the planning and implementation of security enhancement measures and through security‐related educational events and training for both large and small utilities. The committee maintains formal liaisons with each division within AWWA's Technical and Education Council to ensure strong coordination and communication and to make sure that the committee meets the broad security needs of the water industry. The article discusses the Security Committee's role in hosting the Water Security Congress and its five subcommittees that include: information transfer; security practices; training and education; liaison and outreach; and, emergency preparedness.
