Maintaining the Relationship between the Employee and the Employer
This chapter deals with employee relations in the context of the construction company. It begins by looking at the supervisor's role in evaluating worker performance. The chapter considers what current federal law says about employee relations by considering issues of discrimination and harassment. Both the employee and the employer should have clearly defined objectives when entering into the evaluation process. Performance evaluation is a key responsibility of the construction supervisor. Laws have been enacted to help protect employees within the diverse work environment. The laws generally fall under the category of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) legislation, and they protect individuals from discriminatory practices in the workplace. Another law that is important to the supervisor is the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
