The AWWA Diversity & Member Inclusion Committee: Breaking New Ground
The Diversity & Member Inclusion Committee was created in 1990 as the AWWA Minority Affairs Committee. A year later the committee became the Minority & Women Affairs Committee. By 1996, the committee had been broken into two parts, with the Women & Minorities in Water Industry Committee under the Technical & Education Council's Management Division, and the Diversity Committee as an administrative committee under the Public Affairs Council. The board of directors then elevated a retooled Diversity & Member Inclusion Committee (DMIC) to be a standing committee. Today, the DMIC focuses not only on involvement but, as is reflected in the name, on practices of inclusion.
