Multibarrier Approach Meets Challenging Water Quality Standards at Bendigo Water Treatment Plant
This article reports on the Bendigo Water Treatment Plant located in southeastern Australia. It is a 33‐mgd plant that uses a multibarrier approach combining microfiltration, ozonation, and biologically activated carbon (BAC) to meet Bendigo's water treatment challenge that includes: 4‐log reduction for Cryptosporidium; reliable organics removal (algal toxins, color, and taste and odor compounds); and, no commercial contractual relief as a result of unforeseen changes in raw water quality. The article discusses the multibarrier design and how the plant has successfully met some of the most stringent water quality standards in the world.
