Value Management and Asset Management
This chapter addresses the relationship between asset management and value management, and explores this through three case studies. Asset management deals with the whole life management of physical assets and the necessary investment required. Two case studies focus on moving organisations from a more operational to a strategic orientation for managing physical assets. The third case study deals with the rationalisation of a physical asset portfolio by a small value team of senior managers. The important conclusion to be drawn from the case studies is to understand the strategic and operational context within which the value study is to take place. This should not be constrained through the application of a standard approach or Work Plan to a value study.
