Reducing level of lake Deemed Reasonable and Prudent
In 1979 the water level in Lake Williams, an artificial lake in Connecticut, was lowered. Property owners on the shore of the lake (who had previously used the lake for recreational activities) sued, claiming that their riparian rights were violated and that public trust in the lake was impaired. The Supreme Court of Connecticut ruled that reducing the water level of an artificial lake to compensate for inadequate design of a dam did not impair the public trust in the lake.
