The Propagation of Elastic Waves and Their Interaction with the Engineering Structures
This chapter examines the propagation of seismic waves in the laminar inhomogeneous medium. It analyzes the stationary diffraction of a horizontal shear waves in a half‐plane on a semi‐cylindrical base and on a semi‐cylindrical rigid foundation of a structure. This formulation of the problem has practical interest from the point of view of the requirements of seismic resistance, especially since the obtained solution gives the opportunity to estimate the influence of soil conditions of a base on the values of the reactions of a structure. The chapter presents the methodology of calculations of linings of tunnels on seismic resistance, based on the application of the accelerogram of strong earthquakes. It also examines a thin‐walled ring, which is located in the limitless space, and an underground structure with arbitrary cross‐section, which is located in an infinite (limitless, boundless) space under a plane strain conditions.
