Swelling of gypsum Keuper is a result of dissolution of anhydrite due to water uptake and crystallization of gypsum. It results in large swelling strains and swelling pressures up to 9 MPa respectively. A coupled homogenous model combining the elastic viscoplastic stress strain behavior of a jointed rock, the seepage flow, the water uptake and the swelling is described. The corresponding Finite Element Program is outlined. The calibration of the theory is carried out by means of back analyses of the stresses and displacements monitored in a test gallery.
