The Mechanical Fasteners
In the initial part of the chapter, bolted connections are introduced with reference to shear and axial forces, considering also the effects of bolt tightening. EU and US rules for the design are presented, also making reference to the rules of practice for fastener assemblages and the main methods for tightening the bolts. Furthermore, connections with rivets are briefly introduced. Design examples are related to bearing and slip‐resistant connections.
