Radial Impact on an Elastically Supported Ring
The study of free vibrations of a circular ring, as developed by A. E. H. Love and S. Timoshenko, has been extended for the case of a circular ring that has radial and tangential elastic support and that is subjected to a radial impulse in the plane of the ring. Equations are developed for the frequencies of rigid-body motion and flexural vibration, and infinite series solutions are obtained for displacements and bending moments produced by an impulsive load analytically defined as a half-sine wave. In the development of the theory, the vibrations are assumed to be inextensional, and damping effects, rotatory inertia, and shear are neglected.
