To delay upgrading one water recycling center while maximizing its investment in a larger one, the San Antonio Water System has constructed a nearly 2 mi long, 60 in. diameter pipeline to convey flows from the smaller plant to a major pipeline that ultimately terminates at the larger facility. The new pipeline includes an aerial crossing of a local creek, necessitating design components to protect the pipeline during flood events as well as careful modeling of the creek’s postconstruction hydraulic and hydrologic conditions so as to minimize changes to the waterway’s floodplain elevation.
