A processing unit (3) has at least one multi-axis robot (17) for carrying out track work. The processing unit (3) comprises a receptacle (10) in the form of a container for receiving the at least one multi-axis robot (17), and at least one movement device (18) for moving the at least one multi-axis robot (17) between a transport position inside the receptacle (10) and a working position outside the receptacle (10). It is thereby made possible for track work to be carried out in a simple, flexible, secure and reliable manner.
