Disclosed are magnesium phosphate cement and a preparation method thereof, which relate to the field of a building material. The magnesium phosphate cement comprises the following components, by mass: (1) 65.0-80.0% of magnesium phosphate cement clinker, (2) 5.0-10.0% of magnesium slag, (3) 2.0-5.0% nano-alumina, (4) 2.0-5.0% of silicon nitride, (5) 5.0-10.0% of fly ash, (6) 2.0-5.0% of a delayed coagulant, and (7) 2.5-5.0% of gypsum. The preparation method of the magnesium phosphate cement comprises: (1) material preparation, (2) pulverizing, (3) pre-mixing, and (4) powder grinding. The magnesium phosphate cement provided in the invention has an adjustable coagulation speed and a characteristic of relatively high plasticity, and is high in early coagulation strength and long-term strength, so that the defect that the long-term strength of the magnesium phosphate cement is reduced is overcome, and the use prospect of the magnesium phosphate cement can be effectively improved.
