The invention relates to a method for heaping up a waterproof tailings pond dam. The method includes selecting drifted barren rocks of ore plants or stripped barren rocks of mining areas as heaping tailings, and classifying and screening the tailings in a whirlcone; heaping coarse sand generated after classification from the tail of a tailings pond, propelling the sand downstream step by step, ensuring that no water is stored in the pond and defining a grinding area and a compactness index; arranging a platform every 8-10m of vertical elevation difference on an external slop surface in a final stage of tailings heap damming and arranging a perpetual horizontal drainage ditch in each platform, wherein the width of each platform is 3-5m; coating an inner slop surface in the final stage of tailings heap damming with a waterproof geomembrane; after coating of the geomembrane, performing slop protection by the aid of high-grade Portland cement and high-rigidity aggregates with good abrasion performance. The method is simple in technological process, convenient to operate and capable of controlling environmental pollution and increasing pond capacity effectively and has the advantages of low work amount, low cost, simplicity and convenience in construction and convenience in maintenance, and the tailings dam constructed after heaping has high safety and stability.
