The invention relates to a stilling pool maintenance method used in a water conservancy project, in particular to a water gate stilling pool base plate reinforcing structure and a construction method thereof. The construction method comprises the steps of chiselling on an original base plate, drainage system arrangement, steel mesh reinforcement arrangement, concrete casting and maintenance. By means of the scheme, a water gate stilling pool base plate is reinforced and maintained, construction cost can be saved, construction time can be saved, upstream retained water is not needed to be emptied, and water resource loss is reduced.
