The present invention discloses an artificial marble and a preparation method thereof. The artificial marble comprises, by weight, 100-120 parts of unsaturated polyester resin, 3-8 parts of octyl succinate, 220-250 parts of alumina, 300-320 parts of silica, 5-10 parts of zinc stearate, 2-6 parts of calcium oxide, 2-6 parts of magnesium chloride and 1-5 parts of a pigment. The preparation method is as below: mixing the components except the pigment in a mixer at a stirring speed of 80-100 rpm for 5-15 minutes, then adding the pigment bit by bit, and evenly mixing; and then sealing with a polyethylene film, placing at 50 to 60 DEG C for 4 -6 h, and then injecting the mixture into a metal abrasive, pressurizing, heating to 160-180 DEG C, and locking the die for 3-5 min to obtain the artificial marble.
