The invention discloses a preparation method of a polycarboxylic water-reducing agent. The preparation method mainly comprises the following steps: preparing a material A, a material B and a material C from raw materials; placing the material A as a bed material into a reaction container, and supplying nitrogen for replacing air in the reaction container; simultaneously beginning adding the material B and the material C by a piece of metering equipment into the reaction container continuously, the adding time of the material B is 2-4 hours, the adding time of the material C is 15-45 minutes longer than the adding time of the material B, after complete adding of the material C, stirring the materials continuously to carry out a reaction for 30-90 minutes, finally adding an alkali solution for adjusting the pH value to 5-7; adjusting adding speeds of the material B and the material C into the reaction container, and keeping the temperature in the reaction container between 5-40 DEG C; a redox initiation system is optimized, small monomers with high activity are introduced, the charging technology of raw materials are adjusted and the like, so that the preparation method of the polycarboxylic water-reducing agent without external heat source is provided, and the preparation method ensures great improvement of performances of the polycarboxylic water-reducing agent.
