The invention discloses a preparation method of an ether polycarboxylic acid water reducing agent. The preparation method comprises the following steps: (1) adding unsaturated polyether, acrylic acid, unsaturated sulfonate, paraffin, ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid disodium salt and water into a reaction kettle and dissolving by stirring to prepare a reaction bottom material; continuously introducing nitrogen gas under the liquid level of the reaction bottom material, and raising the temperature to be 30 to 40 DEG C; (2) adding hydrogen peroxide into the material obtained by the step (1) in one step, and dropwise adding a first mixed solution and a second mixed solution; controlling the dripping speed, wherein the dropwise adding time is 1 to 2.5 hours; after dropwise adding, raising the temperature of a reaction system to be 50 to 60 DEG C and adding the hydrogen peroxide in one step to continually react; (3) adding sodium dimethyl dithio carbamate into the material obtained by the step (2) to stop the reaction, and adding a sodium hydroxide solution to neutralize; cooling to be 40 to 50 DEG C and discharging the material to obtain the ether polycarboxylic acid water reducing agent. According to the preparation method, the generation of gel is easily avoided; meanwhile, the storage stability of the polycarboxylic acid water reducing agent can be greatly improved.
