The invention discloses a preparation method of a porous polycrystalline crucible used for a magnesium oxide target material. The preparation method includes the following steps that 1, a dispersing agent and a surface active agent are dissolved in a medium, and a dissolved solution is formed; 2, the dissolved solution, an antifoaming agent, raw material magnesium oxide and activated carbon are mixed through a ball grinding mill in a wet mode, and suspension slurry which is mixed to be even is obtained; 3, the suspension slurry is dried, and a power body is obtained; 4, the powder body is formed and sintered, and the crucible is made. The porous polycrystalline crucible used for the magnesium oxide target material is particularly applicable to production of the magnesium oxide target material, the crucible wall is provided with a great number of micro holes, emission of water vapour generated in the product sintering process is facilitated, purity is high, the phenomenon that impurities are diffused into a product is avoided, and the porous polycrystalline crucible is resistant to high temperature and long in service life; besides, the number and size of the micro holes in the crucible wall can be controlled by controlling the number and particle size of the added activated carbon according to the use requirements.
