The polycarboxylate water reducer is prepared by a method comprising the following steps: 1) mixing modified polyether, a special ester macro-monomer and water to obtain a first aqueous solution; 2) adding an oxidizing agent into the first aqueous solution, and dropwise adding a second aqueous solution and a third aqueous solution at the same time at the temperature of 20-70 DEG C; and 3) after the second aqueous solution and the third aqueous solution are completely added, stirring, controlling the temperature of the system to be 0-30 DEG C and not to be 0 DEG C, adding water, and adjusting the pH value of the system to be 6.5 +/-1.0 to obtain the polycarboxylate water reducer with the solid content of 40wt%-50wt%. The polycarboxylate water reducer has the advantages of low sensitivity to mixing amount, good slump loss resistance, good adaptability, especially good concrete workability, easy control of preparation conditions, simple operation, high application/cost performance, and realization of mass production.
