The invention provides a box type steel column internally provided with a cross-shaped stiffened steel structure and a manufacturing method. The box type steel column comprises a steel box body, the cross-shaped stiffened steel structure and longitudinal ribs. The steel box body is provided with a cavity with two through ends, and a mounting gap is formed in the top of the steel box body in the length direction of the steel box body. The cross-shaped stiffened steel structure is arranged at the center position of the cavity of the steel box body, and comprises a cross-shaped steel column and astud arranged on the cross-shaped steel column. The cross-shaped steel column is formed by assembling a piece of H-shaped steel and two pieces of T-shaped steel. At least two rows of studs arranged in the axial direction of the cross-shaped supporting structure are arranged on the outer end faces of respective flange plates of the H-shaped steel and the T-shaped steel. The longitudinal ribs are arranged between the flange plates of the cross-shaped stiffened steel structure and the inner wall of the steel box body. The manufacturing method includes the following steps that the whole is splitinto units, the internal cross-shaped structure is combined, the steel box body is welded, and inspection and correction are carried out. The box type steel column and the manufacturing method have the beneficial effects that the influence and limitation of the limited cavity space on welding operation are avoided, production procedures are simplified, and the design requirements are met.
