Aluminum oxide porous ceramic for an air bearing is formed by sintering reaction raw materials, and the reaction raw materials are prepared from, by mass, 100 parts of aluminum oxide micro powder, 30-50 parts of zirconium oxide fibers, 17-35 parts of sintering aids, 8-16 parts of low-temperature glass melting powder and 5-20 parts of vegetable sponge, wherein the aluminum oxide micro powder is aluminum oxide particles with the average diameter being 2-20 micrometers, the average diameter of the zirconium oxide fibers is 0.8-1.2 microns, the average length of the zirconium oxide fibers is 20-100 microns, the vegetable sponge is dried at 60-80 DEG C after being cleaned and is added into the reaction raw materials before sintering, and the vegetable sponge is at least penetrated through the reaction raw materials in length. The sintering conditions are as follows: the temperature is increased to 500-600 DEG C from room temperature at the speed of 5-8 DEG C/min, the temperature is kept for 3-5 hours, then the temperature is increased to 1400-1600 DEG C at the speed of 2-3 DEG C/min, and the temperature is kept for 6-10 hours.
