The invention discloses a retarder for magnesium phosphate cement and a use method of the retarder. The retarder for the magnesium phosphate cement is prepared from the following materials in parts by weight: 23 to 48 parts of borax, 27 to 38 parts of magnesium sulfate heptahydrate and 1 to 6 parts of sodium acetate trihydrate. According to the invention, multiple retarding technologies are combined for use, a retarding effect is obvious, and the retarding effect is easy to adjust and controllable; the retarder is simple and practical, additional facility or measure cost is not increased, and construction management difficulty is not increased; safety and reliability are achieved, ions (such as chloride ions) harmful to a concrete matrix are not introduced, and structural strength and durability are not affected; and the retarder is high in applicability, can be introduced into magnesium phosphate cement paste, magnesium phosphate mortar and magnesium phosphate concrete for use, and is stable in effect.
