The invention relates to a damper and an electric tail door supporting rod. The damper comprises a shell, a fixed seat, a cover body, a rotating seat and an elastic piece. The shell is provided with a containing cavity extending in the linear direction. The fixed seat is provided with a rotating cavity of which the section is conical; the cover body can move in the containing cavity in the linear direction so as to be away from or close to the fixing base. The rotating seat is rotationally arranged in the rotating cavity; one end of the elastic piece abuts against the rotating base, and the other end of the elastic piece abuts against the cover body. When the damper is installed in an outer sleeve of the electric tail door supporting rod, the cover body moves in the containing cavity in the linear direction, so that the force of the elastic piece pressed on the rotating base is adjusted, and then the friction force between the rotating base and the fixed base is changed; therefore, relative rotation between the rotating seat and the fixed seat is adjusted to generate friction force, damping torque is generated on the screw, effective internal resistance of the electric tail door supporting rod is increased, and an automobile tail door has a good hovering effect.
