The invention discloses an alumina/mullite composite porous ceramic and a preparation method thereof.The preparation method comprises the steps that firstly, a plastic forming method is adopted for preparing alumina porous ceramic, namely, a matrix, then pores are filled with an aluminum-silicon source through vacuum impregnation, calcination is conducted at the high temperature, and the alumina/mullite composite porous ceramic is obtained. And growing mullite whiskers on the surface of the aluminum oxide wafer through a gas-phase reaction of an aluminum-silicon source to finally form the aluminum oxide/mullite composite porous ceramic. According to the invention, an aluminum oxide material with excellent high-temperature stability, chemical stability and other characteristics is combined with a mullite material, a porous frame constructed by an aluminum oxide wafer is used as a main body, mullite whiskers are used as a secondary material to grow on the aluminum oxide wafer, and the aluminum oxide/mullite composite porous ceramic is formed. The composite material has good high temperature resistance, excellent chemical stability and a proper pore structure, and can be used as a high-temperature filtering material.
