The invention relates to the technical field of high-temperature coatings, in particular to an environmental barrier coating and a preparation method thereof. According to the specific technical scheme, the environment barrier coating comprises a bonding layer and multiple layers of component gradient coatings mainly composed of rare earth monosilicate and rare earth disilicate, wherein the bonding layer and the multiple layers of component gradient coatings are sequentially prepared on a ceramic matrix composite substrate; the rare earth monosilicate comprises monosilicate of one or more rare earths of samarium, gadolinium, holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium, lutetium, scandium and yttrium, and the rare earth bisilicate comprises bisilicate of one or more rare earths of samarium, gadolinium, holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium, lutetium, scandium and yttrium. The thickness of each single layer of the environmental barrier coating provided by the invention is relatively small, the component change of adjacent gradient coatings is smaller, the change of relative thermal expansion coefficients is smaller, and thermal stress relief under a thermal cycle condition is facilitated.
