The invention provides a xonotlite fiber intercalation expanded vermiculite composite thermal insulation material, which is prepared from the following raw materials in parts by mass: 10 to 20 parts of expanded vermiculite, 10 to 45 parts of quick lime and 10 to 45 parts of quartz sand. The expanded vermiculite is activated expanded vermiculite obtained by heating vermiculite raw ore at 300-1000 DEG C for 1-10 minutes; the quick lime is quick lime powder obtained by taking heavy calcium carbonate as a raw material, heating the heavy calcium carbonate to 700-1200 DEG C at a heating rate of 3 DEG C/min, preserving heat for 3-6 hours, cooling, crushing and sieving with a 300-400-mesh sieve; and the quartz sand is quartz sand powder which is ground to pass through a 300-400-mesh sieve. The composite thermal insulation material disclosed by the invention has excellent high-temperature thermal insulation performance and thermal stability. The invention also provides a method for preparing the composite thermal insulation material, which has the characteristics of wide raw material source, simple process, low production cost and the like.
