The invention discloses a preparation method of an ultra-light corundum thermal insulation material. The preparation method comprises the following steps: mixing a foaming agent and a modifier, adding water, and stirring to obtain a modified foaming agent dispersion liquid; uniformly mixing aluminum oxide hollow spheres, corundum powder, micro powder, a binding agent, a dispersing agent and fibers to obtain a mixed raw material; adding the modified foaming dispersion liquid into the mixed raw material, stirring and fully foaming to obtain mixed slurry; the mixed slurry is poured into a mold, and after the mold is automatically filled with the mixed slurry, the surface is flattened; after curing is completed, demolding and drying are conducted, and a green body is obtained; the blank is sintered, the porosity of the obtained ultra-light corundum heat insulation material is 55%-80%, the volume density is 0.90-1.20 g/cm < 3 >, and the compression strength is larger than or equal to 15 MPa after the ultra-light corundum heat insulation material is sintered at the temperature of 1200 DEG C. The problems of poor pore uniformity, low material strength and high heat conductivity coefficient of the aluminum oxide hollow sphere light heat insulation material can be solved.
