A system and method for automatic railway maintenance by a sleeper team using electronic sleeper markings (ETMs) configured to optimize railway asset maintenance. The system can realize automation of the self-adaptive maintenance process of the maintained assets. The system may use various forms of checks to identify railway assets planned for maintenance, including real-time dynamic (RTK) correction GPS data, radar signal processing data, and real-time imaging. The system also provides acquisition and uploading of asset pictures for verification and analysis of railway assets. The system may determine the next location where maintenance is required and may calculate an optimal path from sensor inputs combining machine-specific and environmental characteristics. The system may provide a customizable user interface to identify, track, and process information related to railway asset maintenance.
