The invention relates to a motor vehicle lock having a plate and a casing (1) enclosing the entire mechanism of the lock, comprising a rotary latch (2) intended to engage with a striker mounted so as to project from a fixed frame, a rotary pawl intended to retain the striker in the closed position and a striker packing piece (5) made of flexible material that is disposed in a housing of the casing (1), said striker being pressed between this striker packing piece (5) and the latch (2) in the closed position of the lock, said casing (1) also containing at least one rib (1A) that is directed approximately perpendicularly to the mean plane of the latch (2). According to the invention, said striker packing piece (5) has at least one extension (5B) that is housed close to said rib (1A) and has a thickness that extends above the height of the rib (1A) in the direction of the latch (2), such that a movement of the latch (2) perpendicularly to its mean plane causes this extension (5B) to be compressed, without contact with said rib (1A).
