Improved syphon
The syphon 2 comprises a pumping chamber 12 having an inlet 5 and an outlet and housing a diaphragm which is movable with respect to the outlet, the diaphragm comprising a frame having at least one aperture for providing fluid communication between the inlet and outlet, and a flexible membrane 112, 114 movable relative to the frame about a joint 130 in order to open and close the at least one aperture, wherein the chamber has a greater length than width and the joint extends parallel to the length. The joint may bisect the width of the chamber, and comprise an arcuate abutment portion against which the membrane is guided when opening the aperture. The syphon may comprise a u-shaped overflow tube. A fastening member may hold the joint in position. The joint may comprise a collar extending toward the outlet tube for connecting with a stem for operating the diaphragm. Also claimed is a diaphragm.
