A method of manufacturing a calcium silicate decking board for external use is disclosed which comprises the steps of making of a slurry comprising 50-70 wt% calcareous material (such as calcium hydroxide and quicklime), 15-25 wt% silica-bearing materials (such as sand, fly ash, diatomaceous earth, silicon dust, zeolite, montmorillonite, pyrophyllite, allophane, chlorite mineral, attapulgite), 10-20 wt% of inorganic fillers (such as perlite, wollastonite, mica, talc, calcium carbonate, gypsum), and 6-10 wt% cellulose or glass fibres forming the slurry into a board in a mould carrying out a hydrothermal reaction at a pressure of at least 1MPa, such that the cured material has a flexural strength of 18 – 30MPa.
