Franconia-Springfield Route: Supplementary Subsurface Investigation, Section J002
Results are presented of 15 supplementary borings made in Section J002, Franconia-Springfield Route, of the Washington Metropolitan Area Metro System, in the City of Alexandria, Virginia. This work was done to obtain additional subsurface data for the following locations: at the planned 66-inch diameter culvert to be installed under the RF&P Railroad near Metro Station 705; at the embankment and retaining wall near Stations 738 to 740; and at the planned J003 Metro Bridge between Stations 740 and 747. The report contains geological sections through the borings, logs of the new test borings, results of laboratory tests on soil samples and comments on anticipated design and construction problems.
