Current Housing Reports: Characteristics of Apartments Completed: 1995
Preliminary estimates from the Survey of Market Absorption show that during 1995, a total of 155,600 privately financed, nonsubsidized, unfurnished, rental apartments in buildings of five units or more were completed in permit-issuing areas in the United States. This is a 50 (+ or = 15) percent increase over the 104,000 such units completed in 1994, and is more than twice (+ or = 12,160) the number of such units completed in 1993. About half (51 percent) of the new apartments in the United States were built in the South, 24 percent of the total were built in the West, and 21 percent were built in the Midwest. The Northeast accounted for only 5 percent of new apartment completions.
