Slag-Steel Reaction and Control of Low-Melting-Point Inclusions in Al-Deoxidized Steel
In this chapter, formation of low-melting-point inclusions in Al-deoxidized steel melts was discussed by a series of slag-steel reaction experiments in laboratory. Two types of high basicity high alumina slags, with initial basicity about 8 while alumina contents about 45% and 35%, respectively, were used in the experiments. It was found that high cleanliness can be achieved in steel melts, with T.O contents about 0.0010% or lower. Besides, low-melting-point inclusions were successfully targeted in steel. Based on the obtained results, influences of alumina content in the used slags on the control of inclusions and the relationship between the compositions of slag and the formed inclusions were also discussed.
