Conclusions 1. In the construction of hydraulic developments in mountain regions, the natural conditions have a determining influence on the work techniques used during all the stages of the construction. 2. The engineering mountain-climbing methods developed during construction of the Toktogul'sk hydroelectric plant permit carrying out, at the required efficiency, the construction-erection work on steep canyon walls. 3. Cable elevators may be used as the basic means of broad mechanization of laborious operations in the preparatory work on canyon walls. 4. In connection with intensive construction of hydroelectric plants in mountain regions, it is important to study carefully the actual experiences with preparatory work on canyon walls.
