Restoration of a cloisonne glass ceiling light
The restoration of a cloisonne glass ceiling light was analyzed, the sides of which were formed of panels of cloisonne glass and the base was of transparent rippled green glass. An aqueous extract of the adhesive was tested for the presence of protein which confirmed the presence of a proteinaceous glue. The metal strips and glass granules which were detached or which were transferred to the cover glass were reattached to the base glass using gelatine dissolved in hot water. The surface of the base plate was coated with gelatine to secure the glass beads, and the broken coverplate was repaired and the corner was restored with Araldite 2020.
