Lifetime tests of structures with the use of microprocessor strain-gaging systems
A new algorithm for interrogating SGs that allows the use of static strain-gaging systems in lifetime tests has been developed. For this purpose, all SGs are divided into groups. If the readings from any SG exceed the maximum specified strain three times during a single cycle of 16-s duration, an emergency situation is registered and an instruction for stopping the testing machine is generated. After the maximum mechanical stresses are calculated, they are compared to the minimum specified values. When the former stresses decrease below the tolerable minimum values, an emergency situation is registered with respect to the gage unloading in a given cross section. The maximum values of the mechanical stresses during a cycle are recorded in a special table of readings, which is used to promptly plot graphs for finding a trend in the readings of individual SGs.
