In increasing numbers, photovoltaic pumping (PVP) systems are used for drinking water in rural areas in developing countries. They can work very reliable and nearly without maintenance. The investment costs however are still relatively high. The investment costs can be reduced when more effective design procedures are used. By means of a simulation model the effect of alterations in the design can be evaluated. The most effective lay-out can be found and the average efficiency can be increased.
