Steady‐State Isothermal Newtonian Point Contacts
In the current chapter, the FEM modeling of EHL steady‐state isothermal Newtonian point contacts is covered in detail. Point contacts can be found for example in ball bearings, crowned cylindrical roller‐element bearings, etc. As a natural least complex starting point, this chapter considers the steady‐state isothermal Newtonian configuration, which would allow an identification of FEM modeling difficulties, before moving towards more complex configurations in subsequent chapters. The governing equations are obtained as a particular case of the more general transient case, under thermal non‐Newtonian regime, as detailed in chapter 1. Some preliminary results obtained using the model detailed in this chapter are presented.
