Single-Port Suction Manifolds
Experimental data are presented for flow through a single circular port into a full-flowing circular conduit surrounded by an infinite body of fluid at rest. One possible application of such suction manifolds is in the predilution of effluents in marine sewer outfalls. Flow rates and head loss characteristics associated with the lateral inflows were determined for port-to-conduit diameter ratios ranging from 1/8 to 1/1. Density differences typical of those between ambient sea water and sewage effluent in a marine outfall were found to have little effect on the operating characteristics of the manifold.
