Process on Taking ASCE Manuals to EWRI Standards
The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) encourages broader participation by its Institutes and the other technical councils in the development of manuals of practice, codes and standards, conferences, and other appropriate continuing education materials. This Chair of the EWRI Standards Development Council (SDC) recommends the continuing development of a private sector-government-academia partnership, including financial support by all sectors, in order for professionals to participate fully in the development of all EWRI/ASCE documents that will benefit partnerships for the entire world. The need to convert many of the current ASCE or other manuals of practice to Environmental & Water Resources Institute (EWRI) standards is emphasized. Updated data analyses are needed for many river basins; along with knowledge about water conservation, reclaimed water, replacement of pipes, land use planning, flood control, coastal protection, desalinization, evaporation suppression on reservoirs, dam safety, aquifer storage and recovery, and atmospheric water management that can be further developed in the 21st Century.
